We were asked to create a new identity for this new, Middle Eastern based Japanese and Italian fusion restaurant. Our team eventually agreed on Tokyoma – Tokyoma is a mix of Tokyo and Roma, (‘Rome’ in Italian). The main type was designed to resemble Japanese calligraphy, with the central ‘o’ being replaced by an abstract mark. With regards to colour choices; red was used to represent Japan, whereas the red and green together also represent Italy. The design relies on the “o” being able to represent both an Italian olive and a Japanese sushi roll.
Along with designing the corporate identity, other items were also designed such as menus, signage, adverts, a Twitter template, bilingual email templates to circulate daily specials and of course, the Tokyoma website.
The Tokyoma website uses the open-source WordPress as the back-end CMS, whereas the front-end uses HTML5, CSS3 and the jQuery framework. The site contains the restaurant menus, Ala Carte and the lunch time specials, a gallery, news (via Twitter) and a contact page.
